Fine blanking process guide

What is fine blanking?

Fine blanking is a precision metal forming and blanking process that uses high pressure, a V-ring, counter pressure and controlled ejection to create parts with smooth sheared edges and high dimensional accuracy.

When does it reduce cost?

It is most valuable when a part would otherwise require blanking plus drilling, milling, grinding or deburring. Combining operations can reduce material waste, labor, handling and quality variation.

How to select a press

Start with part thickness, projected area, material strength, strip width, annual volume, die size, stroke requirements and auxiliary equipment needs. HFB maps these inputs to the HF series and line configuration.

What to send for quotation

Send 2D or 3D drawings, material grade, thickness, annual quantity, tolerance targets, edge quality requirements, available factory power and any existing equipment brand or model.
